About recording

The recording process is one of the best ways to develop the disciplines necessary to build your technique, critical listening skills and confidence in performance.   What's more, it provides a portfolio of your achievements that you can share with others - and use as a measure of your own progress.

I have recorded most of these performances in my music room on the Kawai grand I have had since I was 15 years old.  While not achieving "studio" quality audio, the combination of the Blue Yeti USB microphone and Garageband on the Apple MacPro is able to produce satisfying results.  I can certainly recommend this relatively straightforward easy recording method for all aspiring pianists.  You will acquire some audio editing skills as well.  I usually add some Reverberation to emulate the concert hall effect, and also occasionally adjust some of the dynamic levels.  These minor tweaks help to overcome some of the limitations of recording in a relatively confined space.
